Our Inspiration

The Quad was created out of a passion to support our community on their journey to stay fit and well throughout life. There is no timeline or deadline for beginning your journey to functional fitness. That first time you step into the gym may be in your teens or early 20’s or it may be in your 70’s. Glenn’s story is a perfect example that anytime is the right time to find your fitness community!
Glenn’s Fitness Story
“Throughout my life I have always tried to stay mobile, flexible, and strong. I considered myself to be in pretty good shape.
However, at the age of 73 I found myself in a situation that changed my point of view. My wife took a fall in the bedroom at our home and broke her shoulder. She was in quite a bit of pain. As I tried to help her up from the floor, I realized that I did not have the strength or flexibility I needed at the time.
Fortunately, between the two of us we were able to get her up and to the Emergency Department. It was a pretty scary moment and a big wake up call. My daughter recommended that I explore gyms that offer functional fitness workouts. I had never heard of these types of classes but I knew I had to do something to help me improve my flexibility and strength.
So, I gave functional fitness a try and have never looked back! What I found was a community of people, of all ages ( my group ranges in age from 29-75) with the same goals that I had. As a 73-year-old I was able to participate in the same workout as a 30-year-old, my coach and I just modified the weights and repetitions to fit my skill and fitness level.
My coach keeps a close eye on me to make sure I use proper technique and stay safe. The workouts are based on functional movements that are part of my everyday life like squatting, pushing, pulling and lifting. My workouts are now a key part of my life – three days a week! Hard work, but a lot of self- satisfaction and fun with the “youngsters”. By the way, I am the “75” in our group and I look forward to my Monday-Wednesday-Friday workouts. It has been two and a half years since I started my journey to improve my flexibility and strength. I am amazed at what I am able to do and I feel great!”
